Sunday 21st August 2011, Paris – Belushi’s Open Mic

Another beautiful day in Paris and we’re very excited to be playing again to a Parisian audience.
We spent the morning by the Seine for the last day of Paris Plage, wandered around Notre Dame and then had coffees on the way to Bastille, where there was a nice market selling food and other tasty goods. We got bread and houmous and had lunch by the Seine which was very nice (and healthy).

Got back to Belushi’s via the Pompidou and met up with Graham who’s hosting the Open Mic and his lovely girlfriend, Emily for some tea. As always there are a few problems getting sorted for live events; the PA Speakers are at a venue at the other end of the canal and so Alexis & Graham went to collect them (with a trolley) and still only one works and smoke started pouring out of Alexis’s TAPCO desk, so that meant he would have not playback of the live drums.

Open Mic was quite quiet, just Graham McIntosh playing some covers; ‘Dakota’, ‘Golden Touch’ etc… we jumped up and did guitar / vocal versions of ‘You Never Get What You Want’ and ‘For Herself’ which was nice.

Our friend Raphael arrived just before we started to play & took some photos of us (he works as a Freelance Photographer so it’s great to finally get some live shots from the tour). The show was quite quiet but afterwards I went round with the mailing list and free CDs and got some good feedback from the folks who were there. It seems that the Paris & London audiences have been much more friendly than expected and really get what we’re all about.

So despite everything still being covered in dust from the Paris Plage gig, being cornered in Belushi’s bar, and the sound coming out of 1 PA speaker and a small guitar amp, the performance was great and such a buzz. The staff here at Belushi’s (especially the Scottish ones; Graham, Andy & Ali) have been great and made us feel like part of the gang. It will be really difficult to say good-bye to such lovely people and an amazing city, but we have a couple of days off now so will make the most of them.
