024 – It’s all happening

Posted: November 4, 2011 in Berlin music, Electronic Music, London music

Emika has been working with Berlin’s legendary engineer Rashad Becker to produce her first record for Ninja Tune & it’s out now to d/load or if you prefer physical copies there is a 2xLP version available too. Originally from the UK she is now based in the German capital and has been releasing material for about a year now, most notably the excellent track ‘Double Edge’ which was featured on a Ninja Tune compilation album to mark 20 years of excellent electronic releases. Being signed to such a cool label obviously leads to some fine remixes and collaborations e.g Amon Tobin had remixed ‘Surge’ to excellent ends.
The self-titled album is has a good blend of fresh dubstep beats and techno sounds, brought together by Emika’s distinctive vocals. You know the saying “sometimes less is more”, well here is a young lady who clearly believes in this motto… sparse with instrumentation and vocal melodies this record lets every instrument speak with equal ops.
Listen to ‘Double Edge’ @

Thom Yorke played this on BBC 6 Music – now that’s pretty cool.

Nedry are Matt Parker, Chris Amblin and Ayu Okakita. This London-based trio started performing, producing and recording in summer 2008. Their influences and comparisons include Clark, Björk, Moderat, Efterklang, Mogwai, Shackleton, Ghosting Season, Massive Attack and Radiohead… sound good, right? Right!
The band are now signed to Monotreme Records (home to Jeniferever, 65daysofstatic & This Will Destroy You) and the album “Condors” is out now!
I perticularily like the track ‘Scattered’ – listen @

Pandr Eyez are also based in London. Electronic duo Tom Lloyd & Ferren Gipson are producing some very fine down-tempo tracks and are quickly gaining the attention of fans and indusrty types alike. Signed to Cascine they have recently released their debute EP “Eyez on You” is a lovely collection of tracks to soothe the soul. Listen to the 5-track EP including ‘Little Bit’ @
